For Faculty Members Being Targeted
Reporting and First Steps
- If you or those close to you are in imminent physical danger or there has been a direct threat of physical violence, call 911 immediately. If there is no immediate physical threat, but you have received a threat to your personal safety through emails, phone calls, online posts, or other means, you should report it through UVA Just Report It.
- Document what you’re experiencing. Save any relevant voicemails, emails, and text messages, and take screenshots or photos of social media postings that include coercive, intimidating, or harassing content.
- Contact your department chair or supervisor and inform them of the situation. Ask them to review the information in For Chairs & Academic Unit Heads.
- In cases not involving a physical threat, faculty, staff, postdoctoral scholars, and graduate student researchers who have experienced online targeting in connection with their work at UVA can use the Online Targeting Report Form to report the incident and request support. Undergraduate students should contact the Office of Student Affairs directly.
