Futures Initiative Working Group

The Futures Initiative Working Group (FIWG) is a pan-University task force that advises UVA Leadership about how best to anticipate the many futures we must soon confront.

FIWG members hail from all twelve of UVA's Schools, four of its Institutes, and several of its administrative and academic centers. The FIWG is composed equally of faculty and administrators, each of whom were nominated by the Deans and Directors of their respective schools and divisions.

About The Futures Initiative

Launched in January 2024, UVA’s Futures Initiative scans the higher-ed landscape to anticipate the vast societal and technological changes the University must soon confront. AI has already begun to transform academia, while a host of other technologies (augmented reality, biosensors, quantum computing) are at the gates.
