Professional Development

UVA Acts - Opportunities

There are many ways to get involved with UVA Acts. You can audition to be in an ensemble, attend a public performance, or book a performance for your colleagues.

You can also sign up for our newsletter to be kept up-to-date on our latest projects and opportunities to be a part of the development process. We pilot all of our programs with small audiences before they launch, and we'd love for you to be a part of giving us feedback. Signing up for the newsletter will guarantee that you'll hear about opportunities like pilot performances and open rehearsals in the future.

3x3 Video Series

3x3 Process

3x3s were created to disrupt monolithic understandings of communities at UVA and to provide online opportunities for learning among instructors.

Professional playwrights worked with members of the UVA community--including staff, students, and faculty-- to generate short, fictionalized monologues. The monologues were then workshopped in collaboration with an actor, who offered their personal insights and artistry to the process.

Professional Development Across Faculty Careers

The Office of the Provost provides programs and resources to support faculty thriving and well-being throughout their careers.  These programs include:

New Faculty Orientation

This two-day orientation in mid-August provides a welcome and introduction to UVA for all faculty hired at UVA over the preceding year. New faculty are connected with resources at UVA to support them in their teaching, research, service and have the opportunity to build relationships with each other and with UVA leadership and senior faculty.

Leadership Development

Faculty are often called upon to serve in a variety of leadership roles throughout their careers. The Office of the Provost provides a range of opportunities to support and teach faculty about best practices in inclusive, effective leadership so that they might best achieve their goals and serve the people and missions in their charge.

Faculty Affairs

Faculty Affairs assists the schools in...
faculty recruitment and retention, promotion and tenure, professional and leadership development, and faculty diversity. The Vice Provost maintains all faculty policies; handles faculty actions; and analyzes faculty satisfaction data to develop and revise policies and programs as needed. Faculty Affairs designs and offers programs that advance faculty success in every stage of their career, enhance the teaching abilities of all instructors at the University, and maximize recruiting opportunities through creative and successful recruitment strategies.
