Professional Development Across Faculty Careers
The Office of the Provost provides programs and resources to support faculty thriving and well-being throughout their careers. These programs include:
- New Faculty Orientation
This two-day orientation in mid-August provides a welcome and introduction to UVA for all faculty hired at UVA over the preceding year. New faculty are connected with resources at UVA to support them in their teaching, research, service and have the opportunity to build relationships with each other and with UVA leadership and senior faculty.
- Faculty Writing Retreats
Each summer, the Office of the Provost co-sponsors week-long daytime writing retreats at Morven Farms with different schools and programs at UVA. The retreats provide structure, accountability, community-building and support for faculty writing—while maintaining most of the time on retreat as quiet writing time.
- National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity Membership
NCFDD is a nationally recognized center dedicated to helping faculty, post-docs, and graduate students make successful transitions throughout their academic careers by providing professional development, training, and mentoring.
