faculty recruitment and retention, promotion and tenure, professional and leadership development, and faculty diversity. The Vice Provost maintains all faculty policies; handles faculty actions; and analyzes faculty satisfaction data to develop and revise policies and programs as needed. Faculty Affairs designs and offers programs that advance faculty success in every stage of their career, enhance the teaching abilities of all instructors at the University, and maximize recruiting opportunities through creative and successful recruitment strategies.

Applies to: Part-time and full-time faculty who do not hold tenured or tenure-track positions at the University who qualify for consideration for the Expectation of Continued Employment. Non-tenure-track faculty positions are tenure ineligible and are for fixed terms.

Wage Authorization for the Academic Areas

This page provides guidelines for the employment of, as well as schedules for rates of pay for student wage employees, professional research staff, and faculty engaged in short-term and/or part-time work at the University of Virginia (within the academic division and/or health system). Individuals who prepare the wage actions for these employee types must do so in accordance with this authorization.

Minimum Entry-Level Salaries for New Hires

New offers of employment to full-time faculty and professional research staff must meet or exceed the levels specified below and/or in the Provost’s Wage Authorization. Salaries for academic faculty and professional research staff currently employed at the University may not meet these minimum levels if they were hired prior to July 1, 2016.

The levels defined below constitute the “base state salary” for each position and are to be used when calculating supplemental salary support from restricted endowments whose income cannot be used to replace base state salaries.
